How do I go about selecting a builder?

You and your Realtor need to set appointments and go look at several finished homes representing the builders finished product. Ask for references in order that you might speak with the builder’s previous clients. It is particularly important to talk to previous clients who have gone through the construction process with the builder. Determine whether or not your builder has a reputation of communicating well with his clients and providing service after the sale!
In addition, ask the builder for financial references from current lenders with whom the builder is involved. It is important to make sure the builder has a responsible and long-term financial relationship with lenders, suppliers and subcontractors.
Look for quality of product, references from previous clients and current lenders, and make sure you feel you can communicate comfortably and effectively with the builder you select.
